After that, Apollo was just kind of...there, tbh. He didn't hate him, but he didn't particularly like him either so he never went out of his way to go talk to him outside of trials. During trials though, he didn't mind talking to him or bouncing ideas off him or that sort of thing. He'd proven in the first trial that he wasn't against speaking his mind on something even if doing so was ill-advised. And Kuzuryuu appreciates that sort of thing because he's a jackass. But even so, he still didn't really see Apollo as much of a threat. He was fairly intelligent, yes, and he was one of the people who had eventually figured Feferi out, but he was easily swayed when presented with logical conclusions and arguments. Which Kuzuryuu likes to think he's pretty good at! So as long as he remained a credible person, he was pretty confident in his ability to nudge Apollo down the wrong path whenever another DK went. So, honestly, he really kind of underestimated Apollo.
AND THEN HE WENT AND BLEW UP THEIR SUPER SWANK HEADQUARTERS, RUDE TBH YOU JACKASS. And he yelled at Feferi and made her jump out a goddamn window COULD YOU POSSIBLY HAVE ANY LESS TACT, YOU MORON. That was when Kuzuryuu kind of realized that Apollo had people skills to rival his own, smart as he was. Had circumstances been difference, perhaps they could have bonded over their mutual inability to properly deal with people. BUT NO. YOU HAD TO BLOW UP THE SMOKING ROOM AND THEN HELP EXPOSE THEM. But well get to the exposing in a minute, because obviously we have to cover Rin's trial first. Which was the point that Kuzuryuu began to actually outright dislike Apollo. Because, first off: roboracism. Dude, he knows you're bad with people but come on, that was some really shitty stuff you said to a girl who was ABOUT TO DIE? Why are you so bad with young teenage girls, Apollo. Why. And then, secondly: calling everybody selfish. In retrospect, that argument was probably one of the things that sent up red flags for Apollo because why did Kuzuryuu care so much about something like that? Obviously: because he had an extra incentive over his head involving the life of his own sibling. Something which he'd been struggling with all game. Because for the yakuza, killing for family is actually an honor? Like it's just something you don't hesitate to do. And guess what he'd been doing all game long because he was having trouble justifying killing two innocent people just to prevent his sister from being murdered? Like...if one of them were responsible for killing his sister or something, he wouldn't have hesitated at all. But nobody here had done him wrong and he actually liked a fair few of them so he was caught between not wanting to do something and feeling like he had to. Which is why he reacted so poorly when Apollo went all super black-and-white on him. Because Kuzuryuu falls more into shades of grey and he'd spent the whole game telling himself that NOBODY in this game, himself included, was selfish. Because none of them had murdered for personal gain! They were all trying to help somebody else, never mind the fact that the act of taking a life is inherently a selfish act because it's deciding that someone doesn't deserve to live as much as somebody you care about. Which was perfectly logical and Kuzuryuu understood, but didn't want to admit to because he was emotionally conflicted and despairing enough as it was.
Remember how I said Kuzuryuu kind of underestimated Apollo? Yeah, okay, so even after the clue thing, Kuzuryuu still did not think that anybody had figured out the DKs. He had no idea why Apollo left in such a hurry BUT HE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS BECAUSE THAT WAS THE GREEN LIGHT HE NEEDED TO EXPOSE SEBASTIAN'S REPORT. Aaaaand that ended up being the thing that firmly cemented Apollo into the position of Kuzuryuu's least favorite person. Funny story, he was actually Kuzuryuu's intended victim when I first submitted his murder plot. Because he Kuzuryuu had the least qualms with killing him since they weren't close and he was fairly confident he could actually take him out (unlike, say, Sebastian). SO IF APOLLO HAD EVER ENDED UP DEADWEIGHT...HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE GETTING BLOWN UP IN THE READING ROOM. SORRY, BRO. Anyway, back to the report. Obviously, Kuzuryuu was really not happy about that. Because of all the people, it was this asshole. And he couldn't even confront Apollo about it because he couldn't...admit to being a part of the group. But he felt like he also couldn't vehemently deny it either, because that'd essentially be the same as confessing, coming from him. So all he could do was just kind of brush it off and try and keep his temper in check. What REALLY pissed him off though was Apollo's "no kill week" plan. Like, exposing them was one thing, but that plan just...it was Apollo's poor people skills at work. Because he was basically saying "let's help these four by doing the one thing they aren't allowed to let happen!" He was making no effort whatsoever to try and understand the DKs and the position they were stuck in. But, again, he couldn't say anything. So all he could do was just kind of sit there and let the anger fester and lament the fact that they hadn't killed Apollo sooner. HAHA SO...WEIRDLY ENOUGH HE WAS MORE PISSED AT APOLLO THAN THE GUY WHO ACTUALLY WROTE THE REPORT, UM...
So fast forward to w8 WHERE APOLLO GETS THE GREAT IDEA TO BLUFF TO NANAMI ABOUT KILLING ALL THE DKS. Which ooc'ly I have to tell you I was laughing my ass off at. Because we'd been planning the DK murder since before Austria went so obviously by that point it was more or less completely plotted out AND THEN APOLLO DID THAT. NONE OF US WERE EXPECTING IT AND YET IT WORKED OUT PERFECTLY WITH WHAT WE'D PLANNED. It even worked out on an ic level because OBVIOUSLY Nanami was going to tell Kazoo about it. And he was just kind of like "oh good, I can use this to my advantage." Because, before that, he wasn't sure if he was really going to be able to sell the "somebody wanted all the DKs dead angle." So, thank you for doing his legwork for him Apollo. Though he was still pissed that Apollo made Nanami cry, even though that was SUPER HYPOCRITICAL OF HIM because he was planning something that was surely going to make her cry even more. But Kuzuryuu is actually an astounding hypocrite I'm surprised Apollo was the only one who picked up on that fact. That being said, he was unsurprised that Apollo reacted the way he did. Honestly, he expected more people to throw punches at him because despite being for the best, what he did was kind of terrible. Even Kuzuryuu will admit to that much. It was a terrible plan born of a terrible situation but it was really the only option. He neither wanted to kill his teammates nor leave Nanami alone but unfortunately the game was never going to end so long as the three of them were still around and Nanami was still in a position where they could force a mastermind trial. Also the hostages. He didn't want them to die.
When literal murder castle week happened, Apollo was the person Kuzuryuu was actually the most worried about. Not because he thought Apollo would get himself killed, but because he thought Apollo might do something stupid and get SOMEBODY ELSE KILLED. HE WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE ELEPHANT BOMB AFTER SEABASS GOT SHOT IN THE BUTT. Like everyone else was laughing at that and Kuzuryuu was just like "okay but they're going to confiscate his bomb before he accidentally sets that off, right???" And then nobody did and Kuzuryuu questioned everyone's judgement. Apollo redeemed himself in Kuzuryuu's eyes a bit when he found out he had to be kicked through the graveyard portal because he refused to leave Maya and Nanami (but mostly Maya) behind. THOUGH HE STILL THINKS HE DESERVED THE PHYSICAL VIOLENCE HE GOT FROM GUNDAM THERE. YOU GO, CLASSMATE.
As far as things go now, he's finally let go of all of the hatred he briefly had for Apollo and most of the anger. But not all of it because he's Kuzuryuu and anger is his thing but it's kind of at a more normal, harmless level now? The Kuzuryuuian anger default, don't worry he won't hurt you unless you give him a damn good reason. Apollo is still not, and never will be, his favorite person or even somebody he's overly fond of, but he will work with him from here on out with no complaints. So long as he's not like...doing something that's going to get somebody else hurt. Apollo, he firmly believes that you need a leash. In spite of that though, Kuzuryuu does trust him somewhat. But it's in the sense that he trusts him to get things done and to not backstab people, not in the sense that he would trust him with secrets or anything like that. It's more a...I guess factual trust than an emotional one? Logical trust? YOU GET WHAT I MEAN, SURELY.

also FUN FACT the no kill week was actually maya's idea, apollo figured trying it couldn't hurt so they could see exactly how far they could go before someone was forced to act \8D/ LET'S EXPERIMENTING WITH DKs WHY NOT. (tho he was genuinely hoping no one would die oops)
aw yeah mutual distant trust....respect...something...I GET YOU.

Was it really? I had no idea whatsoever and obviously Kuzuryuu didn't either. AHAHA GOD HE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS BUTTFURIOUS IF HE'D KNOWN IT WAS MAYA. But given the conversation he'd had during Rin's trial he just...thought...Apollo didn't care. Especially since he pulled that one line with Kuzuryuu about how no incentive was worth it and killing was suicide. So he just...blamed Apollo for the whole thing... Way to go Kazoo.
Y-yes...that........what losers...
