IT'S NOT LIKE HE LIKES YOU OR ANYTHING, DUMBASS. Okay so while clearly nobody else really minded Spain's...Spain-ness, Kuzuryuu found it really irritating, especially in the beginning. He has the tendency to think most people are idiots by default so when somebody uh...proves that by being kind of an oblivious space case, it just further cements that opinion and makes him feel justified because OBVIOUSLY HE WAS RIGHT!! Which is basically what happened the first time he talked to Spain.

But then Nanami started wearing down his whole "I am a tough guy and I hate everybody act," which at first he kind of just told himself was a matter of self preservation. Because the first couple of weeks proved that if he was a friendless loser, he wasn't going to last very long. But really on some deep, dark super secret level he actually wanted to be friends with everybody he's just a tsundere dumbass who can't admit to something like that. And Spain was another one who would actually bother to put forth the effort to be nice to him. Because he's a friendly guy! He never really got to the point where he considered himself to be super close to Spain, but he did like him after he started really warming up to him. Obviously, Spain was the one who spawned the whole origami thing. Because he reminded Kuzuryuu that was a thing that he knew how to do and he found that it actually was a pretty good way to distract himself. He wasn't sure if that's why Spain did it, but it did become kind of therapeutic for Kuzuryuu in later weeks. (nightmare week especially)

ALL THAT BEING SAID THOUGH HE...DID STILL THINK SPAIN WAS KIND OF DUMB. And yet, for a while there in week 4, he really thought Spain was the killer. He had it narrowed down to him and Bakura because of the clothes thing but he just couldn't figure out for the life of him why Bakura would try and frame Feferi. And he saw Spain's incentive picture and BASICALLY IT JUST MADE MORE SENSE FOR IT TO BE HIM? Which is why he chose to walk out the crime through Spain's perspective as opposed to anybody else's. Which was actually what made him doubt the accomplice thing because when he actually said it it was like "wait but that doesn't make sense." In the end though, he ended up being kind of mad on Spain's behalf because Bakura's stupid frame job got SPAIN in more trouble than it did Feferi and Kuzuryuu almost fell for it entirely HE'S SORRY HE DOUBTED YOU SPAIN. AND MADE YOU OUT TO BE A DASTARDLY FLIRT-KILLER JUST BECAUSE KOUGYOKU THOUGHT YOU WERE ATTRACTIVE. Week five though just gave him all the more reason to think Spain was a moron because 1) guitars are not people, u need to stop and 2) WHO THE FUCK DOESN'T WASH THEIR HANDS BEFORE THEY EAT? For real, Spain, if you can't even follow basic hygiene, you deserved to get your dumb ass poisoned. Okay, that's a lie he was actually glad that Spain didn't die. HE WAS REALLY CONFUSED FOR THAT WHOLE THING, BY THE WAY THOUGH LIKE...obviously he knew who the killer was but he had no idea what Phoenix's plan was so he was just kind of standing there like "PHOENIX, WHAT DID YOU DO??"

Then Spain got poisoned AGAIN two weeks later and it was terrible. Like...he's used to seeing people die and all but Spain's murder bothered him more than any of the others at that point. Because it was just so drawn out and terrible for everyone involved since they all got to watch him die while NOT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. And Spain kept saying he was stupid, which Kuzuryuu translated as "I should have saved some of the antidote" or "this is my fault", neither of which he thought were true. At the time, he thought that saving Austria was really noble and that Spain should be proud of the fact that he saved someone he cared for at the cost of his own life. Then it turned out it was Austria who did it in the first place and that was kinda...uh...well that was terrible that she took advantage of his feelings like that. THOUGH APPARENTLY SPAIN WAS TERRIBLE TO HER TOO OR SOMETHING? He doesn't understand and he's not touching that with a ten foot pole but he guesses the two of them are even or something? What the fuck, y'all need Jesus.

At this point, he wouldn't mind talking to Spain more and maybe trying to get to know him a little better. Especially since he's really grateful that Spain volunteered to lose his memories (even if it didn't end up being permanent). In that way, he kind of feels like he owes him on some level? Because Kuzuryuu was too scared of what might happen to his mental state if they wiped him to volunteer. Because he knew he had a history of being kind of batcrap and murderous and that murder castle had actually made him a better person. There was also the matter of all his comatose friends back home but MOSTLY HE DIDN'T WANT TO GO BACK TO BEING A TOTAL SHITHEAD AND ALSO POSSIBLY CRAZY? So yeah, thank you for that, Spain.
