Kuzuryuu was pretty neutral on Mei throughout pretty much the whole game. Well...excluding like the first week or two where he BASICALLY DID NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANYBODY. Okay but after he got over that he didn't particularly have any strong opinions either way just...she was a quiet girl and just kinda there. Which he was okay with because that meant it was one less person trying to get in his business.

Week 4 was kind of the point where that changed because ATTEMPTED MURDER, which he was actually fine with? I don't know where some people got the impression that Kuzuryuu was ever judging any of the killers because he...really never did. Because he's fucking yakuza and he's seen people kill for pettier reasons than anybody here did. And murder is just kind of a greyer area for him in general, compared to most people. I'M NOT SURE IF THAT WAS JUST ASSUMPTIONS ON CERTAIN CHARACTER'S PARTS OR BAD WRITING ON MINE but really the only killer he ever judged was Bakura because...Bakura's whole thing was really cowardly in his opinion and then HE TRIED TO PLAY HIMSELF OFF AS A VICTIM AND SAY IT WAS SELF DEFENSE WHEN IT WASN'T. But Mei at least owned up to what she did and tried to help them in the trial afterwards, even though there was a risk that people might say "OH WELL SHE TRIED SO LET'S JUST EXECUTE HER ANYWAY." So he had no qualms with the whole greasing the step thing or letting her get the incentive, she did at least TRY TO MURDER SOMEBODY. Even if it was...really kind of indirect and obviously didn't work because it failed to actually kill anybody. And he even agreed that the DKs should consider her "retired" and not go after her so that she could leave with her prize and get her sister back. BECAUSE SIBLINGS ARE IMPORTANT. So after that trial, he did make a few attempts to try and get to know her better because he figured some people might like...judge her and shun her for attempting murder. And she killed for family. He probably should have made more attempts to talk with her than he did because they actually probably would have gotten along pretty well but he was kind of going through some shit AND THEN ONE OF HIS TEAMMATES KILLED HER BFF AND THAT WAS KINDA AWKWARD.

He was not touching the Nanami thing with a ten foot pole though lmao, like beyond that one conversation they had at the ball where he tried to tell her that Nanami didn't actually hate her (because she didn't) he was just not going to get involved in that. Just, nope you two sort whatever this catfight is and leave him out of it. Though he really probably could have helped if he'd gotten involved TOO BAD HE'S A SHITHEAD. So that said, legit the only problem he had with Mei in that showdown during w7 was the fact that she tried to hit Nanami. Because he's Nanami's best friend and he just wasn't going to stand for that, which is why he tried his intimidation tactics there.

Oddly enough on w8 HE ACTUALLY WASN'T TRYING TO GET MEI INVOLVED IN THAT MESS. He was definitely trying to get Apollo dragged into it because of the bluff he pulled on Nanami but Kuzuryuu wasn't even aware that Mei was in on all that. But since she did wind up on it and since he wasn't allowed to confess and had to at least act for a little while like he was trying to get away with it, there were a few times where he ended up casting some suspicion on her. Like with the lie that Chizuru was leaving the Dragon Wing door open. HE'S SORRY ABOUT THAT, but his hands were tied and at least he never intended to let anybody else die for it so there's that. As much as he thought he was going to be dead for good after his execution, he also believed in Wriggle, which is why he told Mei what he did before he died. Because he figured finding out that the incentives were very likely to be fake was a pretty low blow, considering how long she'd been hanging on the hope she'd get to see her sister/Yuyuko again. If the Host had said something that lead Wriggle to believe that there might be a chance for everyone who died, then he thought that that was reason enough for them to try and pursue that avenue. More people just needed to know about it/believe in Wriggle so he figured he'd give a nudge to one of the people who was most concerned over one of the dead players.

Now that they're out of the game and stuck here for god knows how long though, I'd say they stand a pretty good chance of ACTUALLY BECOMING EYEPATCH BUDDIES FOR REAL. Because, again, he's never really genuinely hated her (those first few weeks of pretending not to give a shit about people don't count) and he actually appreciates the fact that she has a more subdued personality. Because with people like Maya and Feferi around SOMETIMES IT'S NICE TO HAVE FRIENDS WHO AREN'T FULL THROTTLE HIGH ENERGY SILLY AND PERKY ALL THE TIME.
