APOLLO. He is HANDS DOWN the person that Kaoru's opinion waffled on the most, oh my gosh. Like literally week Kaoru's opinion of Apollo changed. At first he was hella buttgrudgey over the fact that Apollo singled him out as suspicious in the first week's trial, even though he was totally right about it in the end. So it started off negative for a really dumb reason... And then it just kind of stayed negative because Apollo started stalking the W2 suspects and he was just like "why is Apollo happening". Kaoru made the conscious decision to leave Apollo out of the daisychain of Feferi info because he honestly thought Apollo was too much of a wildcard for it... so he was actually seriously surprised when he found out that Apollo was still working on the case on his own and had basically run to the same conclusion!

After that Apollo was kind of a nonentity for a while to him until W6 when he blew up the smoking room, which Kaoru was like GO APOLLO for. And then he totally divided party opinion by doing the whole ROBOTS AND PEOPLE AND MORALS thing. On one hand, Kaoru definitely did not agree with the robots aren't people angle in specific because he's spent enough time around them to be like "ROBOT RACISM IS REAL", so he was in conflict about that. ON THE OTHER, he also did agree with what Apollo was saying about how no one has the right to decide which life is more than any other life and was kind of sad that that point got drowned out by the fact that he was bein a dang robot racist at the same time APOLLO WHY.

He stepped back after that and let Sebastian just do his thing with the lawyers which seemed to work out well until Apollo went fullspeed dingus and decided to try threatening Nanami to get everyone on the same page and both he and Sebastian at that point were basically like "Apollo why" again. AND THEN THE TRIAL and that was a super awkward trial, but they managed through it okay, and Apollo made it! Without becoming Ryou Mark II somehow! And then W9 happened and Seabass got shot in the ass which he found hilarious. He was kind of worried about Apollo not going along with the no-vote plan but it worked out fine in the end. Then he was kind of worried about Apollo being a survivor because he's Apollo and he had a bomb, but that also worked out fine! He didn't even have to chuck Apollo into the machine because Gundam totally did instead.

So yeah basically the entire game was a series of Kaoru going ????? over Apollo and even now he's still ???? over Apollo... He considers Apollo a genuine wildcard and doesn't even try predicting what he'll do because he's been wrong so often. That said, he will totally appreciate Apollo's defense and will do his best to make sure he doesn't die a dumb squishy lawyer death. And continue making sure he doesn't accidentally blow them all up.
