I AM LAUGHING SO HARD AT THAT ICON omfg. KAZOO. He was so buttmad about Kazoo for SO MANY WEEKS and it was basically all for like, the most idiotic reasons ever. He was jealous over the DKs in general and kind of believed that they were this really cohesive cooperative unit from the start, but that they were only in it for each other, which is why he thought they were such a huge threat. He also realized he hella bumbled up when he went overboard on the passive-aggressive express after the first trial, which he mentioned to Stiles, like "I HECKED UP" and the Kazoo was suspicious of him for the rest of the game so he really did heck up. Perceptive people in general kind of wig Kaoru out because he's lived so much of his life expecting to get by on people accepting him at face value, so when it becomes clear that someone can see beyond that sort of thing, he starts getting nervous. Kazoo's outward personality kind of chafed him a little too just because he finds the whole tough guy thing irritating and he found it doubly irritating coming from a killer. Gundam talked him up a little at least and placated Kaoru but he didn't ever really get what Gundam was trying to say until much later...

He kinda let Kazoo do his thing for a while there after a couple of weeks in which he tried to befriend him, because he basically realized that Kazoo would probably ALWAYS BE SUSPICIOUS OF HIM and therefore there wasn't any point in trying to change his mind by feigning friendship. He basically left him to his own devices for a while and the only mentions of him were like in snotty meangirls remarks to Stiles or Gundam. Gundam eventually had the great idea to try pushing the DKs into action though and seemed confident that Kazoo would do something about it, so he was like YEAH OKAY SURE.

AND THEN KAZOO BLEW UP HIS SISTER... And that was kind of like one step below the Ultimate Despair Moment for Kaoru in the game, because he wanted Chizuru to survive so badly (even though he started off knowing that it'd be better if she died early/before she could kill), so not being able to protect her was a huge blow for him. But he did understand what Kazoo was trying to do and he'll be able to appreciate its cleverness later, probably. Knowing that Chizuru wasn't betrayed also meant a lot to him, so he tried his best to set that to the side for the time being since he knew Bigger Battles were ahead etc. Kazoo kind of dropped from his mind after that point since first he was focused on not being executed and then everyone was dying and then the producers were trying super hard to kill them WHAT A WEEK.

But honestly, what basically helped Kaoru to let go of any misgivings that he had by the end was the thread that they're having in the graveyard right now. He was starting to see that Kazoo was a clever and kind person by the time he died and then it dropped from his mind, but the way that he handled their re-meeting just really struck Kaoru as being exceedingly humble and noble at the same time. That was basically the point where what Gundam was trying to tell him waaay earlier clicked, and he was like wow, shit, this kid is actually a pretty impressive individual. He'll always remember Chizuru died because of him, but he also meant what he said about being somewhat grateful that she had been spared an execution since he had to go through one himself and knows how horrible they are. He's well aware that they couldn't have broken the game without that move either, so he understands that what happened had to happen.

SO YES IN THE END Kazoo turned out to be surprisingly understanding and just a much cooler guy than Kaoru had built up in his head. He absolutely believes him when he says he'd never betray a comrade and he's pretty glad that Chizuru got to go through the game with a support system that included Kazoo now that he's done being buttmad and jealous. Since he's not operating under his act anymore, he'll probably make an effort to try to befriend Kazoo for real this time since GOD KNOWS HOW LONG THEY'LL BE STUCK TOGETHER... But Kazoo will probably join Gundam and Sonia in the ranks of dangorumps that he respects pretty quickly, yes.

I SHOULD HAVE USED THIS ICON INSTEDA I KEEP FORGETTING I HAVE IT. GOD.

ngl, as i was reading through the mole threads i laughed really, really hard at just how wrong kaoru was LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE TIME HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE TWO SHSL YAKUZAS. ah yes. that pekoyama girl, she won't kill anybody, nope. AND THAT DENSE YAKUZA CHILD, OH HOW HE STEAMS MY BROCCOLI.

i'm so glad that they've turned things around though because they both just kind of went through the game with hilariously wrong impressions of each other, it's great.
