So instead, friends!!! Most unexpected CR, I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm not kidding when I say that after their first thread, Kuzuryuu was on my list of "if Maribelle needs to kill someone, go for this one" people. He was crude, rude and foul, Maribelle was not impressed. If she hadn't had more important things to worry about, she would have been a lot nastier to him than she was (yay for murder being distracting). She was a little impressed by him being helpful during the first trial and stuff, but she was kind of "ugh, now we have to actually put up with him" over it. Actually, considering where they are now, it's kind of weird how long it took for her to like him, thinking back. However, investigating together helped him grow on her because she likes capable people who make themselves useful. She did find herself being drawn into conversations with him too, even early on when she didn't like him, just because he was easy for her to talk to for some reason.
Week 4 started pushing her more towards liking him, partly because she felt sorry for him with the Peko thing and partly because she was so shaken over Kougyoku dying and he was there when she was doing body investigating. She was actually really thankful he was, since she was kind of freaking out internally the whole time and having him there to talk to about theories and look at stuff with her was really reassuring. Then there was hostage week! Having Kuzuryuu to talk to about Lissa helped, weirdly? Just knowing there was someone else going through the same thing as her. So she ended up liking Kuzuryuu and wanting to help him! SHIT GOT REAL THEN or realer, I guess. Time to give Kuzuryuu lessons in how to win over the audience, clearly that will help him, let's make him laugh and stuff. She ended up letting down her guard around him and was able to relax and tease him a bit, which was also nice. She didn't really have a teasing relationship with anyone else, except a tiny bit with Kaoru and Austria, but Kuzuryuu was more fun.
When the DK reveal came around, she was genuinely shocked! Not by the existence of the group, since they'd heard about the Mastermind already, but that Kuzuryuu and Nanami were involved. If he'd flat out denied being involved to her, without any bullshit, she probably would have believed him. Out of the four of them, he was the one she most suspected Sebastian could be wrong about, even before Nanami. Mostly because she could believe in him being an idiot and not denying being a DK out of some weird intention to protect Nanami or to look cool or something even dumber, but also because she trusted him. Since he (and Nanami) both didn't flat out deny it though, Maribelle was forced to make a decision! Her friends had been lying to her all along, with the intention of betraying her and getting her killed OR they had been forced to keep the truth from her and needed her help. She picked the latter and honestly, if it had been just Feferi and Chizuru who were accused, she might not have.
So then Maribelle was all set to help Kuzuryuu and Nanami and find a way to end the game and MAYBE THE MASTERMIND IS EVIL MAYBE WE SHOULD FIND THEM NO PROBABLY NOT FUCK THIS GAME and then Austria happened. Fuck this game intensifies and Maribelle is 100% convinced the DKs+Mastermind thing is bullshit and there's no way to win by playing the game. Kuzuryuu apparently did not agree!! She was really upset about what he did to get Nanami to retire, but at the same time she respected it because she loved Nanami too! And she could respect Kuzuryuu being willing to give up his own life to protect her, even if she wanted to save them both. His letter made her cry and made her determined to get Nanami out of the castle safely and be strong and stuff.
She's really happy that he's okay now and has his sister and Nanami and all his school friends. She understands they have some important shit to get back to and so does she! But at the same time, she's not looking forward to saying goodbye and is a little glad they get to put it off for a little while longer. She wants to go home but she'll definitely be visiting the Outrealm Gate occasionally when she does, hoping to run into him.
