Peko actually does really like Maya. For one, Maya offered to channel her, which could have been great. Missed channeling opportunities there, really. No one was more disappointed than Peko when Maya wasn't able to channel her for Kuzuryuu. NOT THAT. SHE WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO SAY TO A KUZURYUU WHO DOESN'T REMEMBER HER SO IT'S FOR THE BEST ANYWAY but the fact that Maya offered meant a lot to her. And that Maya even came by her grave was nice, too.
But that Maya was so firm up to the end about seeing her as a person was something else that meant a lot to her, especially as time (for Peko) went on and Peko started actually wanting to see herself as something else. Other than just Kuzuryuu's tool.
She was actually a little upset about the way Maya blamed herself for Phoenix, though. CONSIDERING THAT PEKO COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD PHOENIX'S REASONING and thought it was A+ well done, she thought the way Maya was acting was a little disrespectful to Phoenix's will. Since Phoenix went through all this effort to keep her safe, Maya should clearly just be focusing on that and not even thinking of taking the blame for herself since obviously this was a good thing??? Jeez. Peko, pls.
She thinks Maya's alright, though; being considerate of Peko's own death really goes a long way, and Maya's attempts to befriend her before were really something else that reinforced Peko's overall positive opinion of her. Come endgame, she'll probably try to talk to Maya more, kind of try to indirectly ask for how Maya thinks she can start thinking of herself as a person.
