She and Yuyuko did sort of get off to a rocky start with the whole suicide conversation thing, and Mei still harbors some guilt over that. She's actually pretty curious about the whole being a ghost thing, and wonders what the world Yuyuko comes from is like.
Though their personalities are pretty different, she sort of found some similarities to her sister in Yuyuko. That's probably why she felt so close to her. It was also nice to have a sort of motherly figure who didn't treat her like a stranger.
Yuyuko's death pretty much crushed her, even though she tried her hardest to solve the murder. The only thing that really stopped her from falling back into that bottomless pit of despair was trying to bring justice to the killer, and Yuyuko's letter. She couldn't save Yuyuko, (until she decided she could use her prize to bring her back) but she would do her best to see that letter reach her friends.
While she doesn't show it all that much, she's positively thrilled to see Yuyuko again. When it comes to returning to their own worlds, she's really going to miss her.
